OAW’s Celebration of Gratitude

The 3rd annual Outlook at Windhaven (OAW) Gratitude Event was held on November 1, in McGowan Auditorium at Presbyterian Village North (PVN). The occasion served as an important reminder to embrace gratitude in every aspect of life. OAW VIPs took the opportunity to express their gratitude, sharing what they are thankful for with other attendees.

Rabbi Howard Wolk, Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas Chaplain, shared a Jewish prayer of gratitude and offered numerous examples of thankfulness found in scripture. Following suit, Rev. Jarod A. Cooper, Faith Presbyterian Hospice Chaplain, shared a personal story of gratitude accompanied by relevant scripture passages.

The gathering provided a wonderful start to the day and marked the beginning of the Thanksgiving season. As the event concluded, OAW VIPs were treated to a tour of PVN’s Hawthorne building and a beautiful model apartment, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the occasion.

What are you passionate about regarding your professional role?
I value the professional relationships I’ve cultivated with my dedicated teammates, wonderful VIPs, prospects, vendors and leadership teammates at both Forefront Living and Greystone. I’m passionate about succeeding, which is a multi-faceted goal. It’s important to me to be a good manager, achieve sales goals and help our prospects find the right home for their future. The OAW Information Center stays busy with sales, event planning, meetings, presentations and more. There is never a dull moment in our office!

What is something that makes you feel proud?
I am proud of my daughter, Connelly, a freshman student attending Colorado State University, where she is also a cheerleader. She is currently majoring in Biomedical Science, with a focus on anatomy and physiology.

Tell us about your hobbies:
I enjoy working out, walking my animals (our cat goes walking too), lake surfing behind a boat and reading. On the weekends, you can find me at Cedar Creek Lake, out and about with my friends or visiting Connelly in Colorado.

What are some of your favorite foods and restaurants?

I love all cuisines, but the spicier, the better! I enjoy Mexican food, especially anything with green chili, and spicy Thai and Cajun food are equally delicious. The Capital Grille is my favorite spot to dine. I recommend ordering the lobster salad, the porcini-rubbed filet and the indulgent coconut crème pie.

Tell us about your family:
I have been married to my husband Carr, for more than twenty years. He is a car enthusiast and owns and operates Carr’s Corvettes and Customs, a full-service automotive repair and restoration facility. We have one college-age daughter, Connelly. Our Maltipoo, Shakespeare, and our mean cat, Jager, complete our family.

How would your friends describe you?
My friends would describe me as loyal and always up for an adventure. If someone needs me, I will be there for them.

Kathryn Childers Captivates OAW VIPs

On October 18, an audience of prospective residents of the Outlook at Windhaven (OAW) were captivated by Kathryn Childers, a trailblazing icon who paved the way for women in the United States Secret Service. During an hour-long session, she shared her adventures as one of the pioneering five female special agents in the agency’s history and also presented her book, “Scared Fearless: An Unlikely Agent in the US Secret Service.”

In 1971, Childers fearlessly entered the ranks of 1,100 male agents, immersing herself in investigations related to counterfeiting and shouldering the responsibility of protecting the President as well as global leaders. Fondly known as the “pistol packin’ nanny,” she cleverly balanced her duties with safeguarding the Kennedy children and accompanying former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis on international ventures.

Beyond her groundbreaking role in the Secret Service, Childers charted an influential path as a broadcast journalist and a dedicated community advocate. Her personal journey was further marked by her unwavering support for her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s as they traveled the country in their Airstream trailer.

OAW prospects were delighted to hear from such an inspiring speaker and Forefront Living was honored to host her. Click here to learn more about Kathryn and her incredible life.

OAW Heads Back to School

The powerhouse sales and marketing teams from The Outlook at Windhaven (OAW) and Bella Vida at La Cantera (BVALC) recently attended Greystone’s Sales School, dedicated to senior living professional development. This three-day, in-person training program provides sales specialists with the opportunity to explore the senior living market in greater depth, while strengthening their confidence in sales strategies and transforming their performance.

Sales School “students” were immersed in a program centered around Greystone’s distinct philosophy – “Relationship Focused, Metrics Driven.” This unique approach to senior living sales was showcased through a series of informative presentations highlighting the latest industry trends and the best techniques for success.

Perhaps the most entertaining portion of the event was the closing “Oscars” ceremony, where participating teams delivered engaging skits, songs, games and more to illustrate the wealth of knowledge they gained throughout the seminar. The OAW team won an Oscar for “Best Performance”, followed by the BVALC group in which Arturo Munoz handsomely portrayed the Golden Bachelor. Lots of laughs were shared and memories were made by these dynamic and hard-working colleagues as they headed back to their respective campuses with renewed energy and additional skills.

Boot Scootin’ Good Time at OAW’s Barn Hall

It was a boot scootin’ good time at The Outlook at Windhaven’s (OAW) VIP Barn Hall event, held at Plano’s Haggard Party Barn on Monday, September 11. This event marked the inaugural town hall-style meeting for the Plano senior living community, currently under construction.

The lunchtime affair, attended by future OAW residents, offered a range of engaging experiences. Event highlights included informative updates delivered by Forefront Living’s (FL) leadership, delicious barbecue-themed refreshments prepared by the talented culinary team of OAW’s sister community, Presbyterian Village North, and the opportunity to get an up-close view of the OAW construction site via convenient shuttle buses.

The festivities kicked off with a touching performance of the National Anthem by VIP Bill Humble, in honor of Patriot Day. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a warm welcome from Tim Mallad, FL CEO. Steve Ailey, FL CFO, and Scott Polzin, FL COO, led the town hall presentation, sharing the exciting news that 85% of the community had already been reserved, with the first resident apartments scheduled for occupancy in July 2024.

Following the community updates, attendees savored a delectable BBQ lunch and embarked on bus tours to view the OAW construction site. Throughout the event, VIPs had the opportunity to connect with their future neighbors and the leadership team, making for a memorable and enjoyable afternoon.

VIPs Embrace The Future of Care

With the landscape of senior living transforming, residents feel empowered to choose the lifestyle they desire while considering their health and safety. This transformation has opened the door to an exciting reality of seniors remaining in residential settings rather than dated and institutional environments. The idea of “aging in place” emphasizes a lifestyle promoting freedom, companionship and personalized care. Seniors, ages 65 and above, account for 17% of the American population making the need for distinct spectrum of care services evident.

This forward-thinking philosophy was showcased at a recent presentation on “The Future of Care” for The Outlook at Windhaven (OAW) VIPs given by Joni Watson, Forefront Living’s Director of Business Development. Her presentation emphasized the importance of seniors living at the level they prefer, while having access to the resources necessary to live a life of vitality and health. Joni explained each level including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, personal assistant care and hospice.

One remarkable shift in senior care is the declining need for long-term care services. Seniors today are healthier, more vibrant and living longer than ever before, thanks to innovations in medicines, therapies and technology.

OAW understands that while the need for long-term care nursing services has decreased, a demand for short-term nursing services remains, particularly during recovery from health incidents. Should circumstances necessitate nursing care, OAW will assist residents in finding the most suitable long-care facility. OAW will continue to evaluate the necessity for nursing services, reflecting the community’s dedication to remaining responsive to the changing landscape of senior care for their future residents.
